A Soldier Unknown
A poem by Emily Norris

A soldier unknown stands tall on the ridge,
He knows his captain’s orders.
Afraid of life,
Afraid of death,
Yet brave, he knows this war’s importance.

A  soldier unknown throws the grenade,
He winces with what he hears.
The enemy’s  loss,
The enemy’s death,
Yet this soldier feels pain for those others.

A soldier unknown hears the crash.
He cries in agony and pain.
The men they shout,
The men they cry,
Yet to this soldier it is but a forgotten dream.

“A soldier unknown”, they’re the words the grave bears,
Forgotten by many is he.
But I remember,
But I remember,
I shall not forget this soldier unknown.
